Building the Perfect Everyday Makeup Routine

Building the Perfect Everyday Makeup Routine

By: Katie Kerrigan

Getting ready in the mornings can sometimes be our greatest enemy. Whether you “accidentally” hit snooze a dozen times, turn off your alarm, or just forget to set one, sometimes it feels like every morning turns into scrambling for the door. Taking an extra hour to get ready in the morning can feel like a monumental task when paired with the hectic late nights of the week.

When our mornings get busy, it becomes easy to overlook the little things we can do that make us feel good about ourselves. For those who are new to wearing makeup, want to experiment with a new casual look, or love makeup but can never find the time for it, consider building an everyday makeup routine.

Building a simple makeup routine for your busy mornings is a great way to make time for yourself while juggling your daily responsibilities.

Before you begin picking products for your everyday makeup look, think about the key things you want to address. How many products do you think you will realistically stick to? How much time are you able to dedicate to doing your makeup in the morning? What is your budget?

Next, ask yourself what type of look you want to create with your everyday makeup. Do you prefer a clean, no-makeup look or something a little more intricate? For those who are new to wearing makeup, introduce yourself to new products one by one. Once you get comfortable with one, move on to the next. This will keep you from overbuying and ending up with products you may not like or need.

If you need help figuring out where to start, finding a good base is always a good idea. Do you prefer a skin-like appearance or a fuller-coverage foundation? If you are someone who does not like wearing foundation, a few dabs of concealer or a simple tinted moisturizer can provide a brightening effect without heavy coverage.

Another approach is focusing on one feature you want to enhance and picking a product that will do just that. If you want to enhance your eyes, start with a mascara, eyeshadow, or eyeliner. If you want to enhance your cheekbones, finding a blush or bronzer that matches your skin tone is an easy way to add some warmth to your skin.

After deciding which approach best fits your needs, think about areas that might need a little extra help in the mornings. Do your under eyes tend to be on the darker side? Find a concealer that will brighten those areas and make it look like you got a full night’s rest. Do you struggle with chapped lips in the colder months? Look for a lip product that is moisturizing and adds the color you are looking for.

How you build a makeup routine for yourself is entirely up to you. The goal is to develop a routine that allows you to leave the house feeling fresh and confident, but most importantly, on time. Whether that means multiple products or just your favorite lipgloss, only you know what makes you feel the most beautiful.
