21st Century Style Icon: Rachel Zegler

From her starring role as Maria in West Side Story to the anticipation of future films like Disney’s live-action Snow White and the new Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, actress Rachel Zegler has become not only an inspiring star but also a dazzling fashion idol. Her many looks, styled mainly by Sarah Slutsky Tooley, are absolutely stunning and make Zegler one of today’s newest fashion icons. 

Streetwear and press-event looks are something that Zegler has down. Many of the outfits embody both trendiness and comfort. The Fendi outfit Zegler wore during press for her newest film, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, for example, was paired with a matching light rose gold jacket and midi skirt, a simple styling that works every time. In her everyday repertoire, you see other pieces like wide-legged pants, oversized blazers, and flowy blouses. Many of the looks are styled monochromatically, creating a cohesive and chic look. 

Zegler’s style is reminiscent of old Hollywood red carpet fashion, fitting for a movie star of her caliber. Her red carpet gowns are a beautiful example of her fresh take on vintage style. The Elie Saab Haute Couture gown she wore for the West Side Story premiere, a long flowy silhouette with beautiful embellishments all over the gown, was timeless and elegant, typical of Zegler’s style. Another favorite is the Vivienne Westwood gown she wore to the 2022 BAFTAs, with a striking blue color and off-the-shoulder sleeves. 

We see other glamorous, modern elements in her more recent looks. In her appearance at the premiere of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, she again wore a fabulous Elie Saab Haute Couture gown. The dress is full of glittering embellishments from head to toe, a blue and gold lining pattern, and a blue train to tie it all together. Her Dior gown worn to the 2022 Oscars ceremony, a sheer, black dress entirely embellished, was glamor at its finest. Zegler is unafraid to play with different styles, frequently sporting cut-out structures, off-the-shoulder or one-shoulder tops, and many two-piece styles. 

In just a short amount of time, Zegler has shown the fashion world that she is and will continue to be an icon to remember, and the best part is that her fashion journey has only just begun.
