1. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
Anne Hathaway, who stars as the beloved underdog Andy, arguably created some of the most influential looks for every season. While our main character had a rough start, her transition makes it worth it. Even the coats that Miranda Priestly throws on Andy’s desk each day should be studied. While every look is full of inspiration, Andy’s black dress trimmed with black lace from the Gala scene is breathtaking for any winter ball. Honorable mentions include Andy’s green, double-breasted button coat with cheetah print cuffs and leg-high leather boots.
2. It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
We all love the lessons this winter classic taught us, but that’s not all we can take away from it. While George Bailey gets to watch the impact his life made on others, Mrs. Bailey, George’s beloved wife, looks fabulous throughout the film. Inspiring looks include her black Christmas Eve dress with a lace collar and shoulder pads. As well as her Peter Pan neckline party dress she wore the night George visited her home.
3. While You Were Sleeping (1995)
In this sweet, 90s romance following the lonely Lucy’s life, oversized, baggy, and comfortable are key players in the movie star’s style. Played by Sandra Bullock, the character sticks to mom jeans and lots of cable knit sweaters. These looks remind us of Ralph Lauren’s vintage winterwear and make one want to curl up next to a fire.
4. Sex and the City: The Movie (2008)
This film, centered on fashion, has looks that inspire fashion lovers year-round. Carrie Bradshaw—played by Sarah Jessica Parker—looks showstopping in her classic fur coat, even when it’s thrown over pajamas and stiletto booties. This New Year’s Eve outfit combo not only works, but inspires us to be bold and authentic with our style this season.
5. The Holiday (2006)
Cameron Diaz is a style icon in and out of the limelight; however, this popular romantic comedy brought some of her most unforgettable looks. Her bohemian, English cottage style mixed with city-chic looks made for an unexpectedly wonderful combination, for example, her iconic lilac beanie, matching striped scarf, and oversized cable-knit sweater from the first scene in Surrey. This effort to look cute while staying warm has inspired many winter outfits over the years. And we can’t forget the fur coats! Black, taupe, and suede fur coats were prominent choices for bundling up in this film.
