Alex Consani is the model and comedic icon that Gen-Z always wanted but didn’t know they needed. Tonight, she was named Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council, and I couldn’t think of anyone more fit for the part.
Consani signed with IMG Models in 2019. However, it was not only her looks that set her apart but her sense of humor. Like many young people, she joined TikTok in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and became immensely popular online, showcasing her effortlessly hilarious personality and amassing nearly 4 million followers by the end of 2024.
Not only is Consani the first transgender model to win Model of the Year, but also the one of the first to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, alongside fellow model Valentina Sampaio. Not to mention: she was the world’s youngest publically transgender model in the world when she began her career at only 12 years old.
Mentioned on GLAAD’s 20 under 20 list as one of the “outstanding young LGBTQ changemakers", Consani has already walked with fashion houses like Versace, Tom Ford, Burberry, McQueen, and Roberto Cavalli, before she was of legal drinking age. If that was not enough to convince you that she was worthy of winning Model of the Year, Vogue named Consani one of the standout models of Spring/Summer 2023.
Model? Tik-Tok star? Let’s add one more to the list! Consani appeared in music videos for Charli XCX song “360” in April 2024.
Wherever you are reading this, it must be a cold and bitter December. But, that does not mean that these chilly winter months can’t be spent feeling cozy. In her campaign with Jacquemus released in early November, Consani redefines the holidays in a chic, comfortable fashion, redefining winter staples into ready-to-wear pieces. From beanies to scarves to eye masks, both Consani and Jacquemus want you to feel the warmth of the holiday season. Consani is the girl to keep your eye on. If we have learned anything from this campaign: the outfits are not wearing her, she is wearing them.
In October 2023 at age 18, Consani was included on the Forbes Top Creators Fashion 50 list, because of her “signature bleached hair and brows” and had the highest engagement rate of any model in her industry, at 21.5%. No, this does not mean you can pull off bleached hair and dyed brows, but I wish we all could.
To tie all of Consani’s accomplishments into a beautiful bow, E! News called Consani “fashion’s new it girl” in February 2023. This is because Gen-Z wants celebrities they resonate with; something more than the glitz and the glamour, and Consani is just that. She is relatable, arguably loud, and potentially annoying in public spaces.
Do I even have to conclude? What has she not done? Our biggest congratulations to Alex Consani for winning the Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council, and may this inspire anyone reading to unapologetically be who you are: it will take you places.
