Kenzo Spring-Summer 2023

Kenzo Spring-Summer 2023

By: Abby Fulmar

Kenzo is a brand known for its clever fusion of European and Japanese fashion and silhouettes, so it is no surprise that the company’s new creative director Nigo, fashion designer and founder of BAPE, desires to reclaim the “fun and excitement” that Kenzo Takada brought to the fashion industry with the brand’s founding.

Kenzo’s Spring 2023 Menswear collection is made up of 60 looks ranging from Harajuku-inspired sailor looks to oversized trouser and blazer sets that have been taking the streetwear world by storm. With Nigo’s witty use of wacky patterns and colors, there is no denying that his sophomore collection pays homage to the brand’s founder while also fitting perfectly into the spring season.

Hats were without a doubt the star of the Spring 2023 collection. The otherwise funky outfits were pulled together by classic accessories including berets, sailor, and newsboy hats. With the clever use of these pieces, Nigo was able to keep the iconic Japanese-French fusion the brand is known for while playing around with modern silhouettes and colors.

If there is one thing you can count on from Nigo, it's that he will always prioritize comfort. The collection is full of oversized pieces paired with simple sandals or loafers. While the collection is classified as “menswear”, it is obvious that Nigo is a supporter of genderless fashion, putting men in traditionally “feminine” styles such as skirts and berets while also giving women the time to shine in masculine, structured suits. Along with his use of neon and earthy tones, the collection embodies the fun, spring-summertime aesthetic that Kenzo’s beginner creative director was going for.
