Approaching the one-year anniversary since he was named Creative Director for Menswear at Louis Vuitton, Pharrell Williams debuted his second menswear collection at the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris this January. The American West-inspired presentation was set with backgrounds of valleys, rocky mountain ranges, and dry plains. Stars like Lil Yatchy, Gunna, Bradley Cooper, and Swae Lee were in attendance, while Virginia native hip-hop artist Pusha T took to the runway for the second time since Williams took the helm.
The opening look set the standard for the collection; the model wore a long white coat with embroidered flowers and fringe detailing paired with a yoked shirt with turquoise buttons, light-washed jeans, and fur, cow-print footwear. The real star of this look was the Louis Vuitton monogram bag in turquoise that immediately caught the eyes of the audience.
This vibrant color became a recurring theme in details throughout the collection, as embroidered denim was paired with turquoise buttons and earrings. One of the most beloved looks from the collection featured a black leather cowboy hat, a white collared button down, embroidered wide-leg, light-wash jeans, and a turquoise LV symbol belt. The model carried a black leather handbag with silver buckle detailing to compliment the hat.
The presentation included a multitude of unique stylings of the infamous cowboy boot and hat. Since Williams took over menswear at Louis Vuitton, he has made it clear that accessories and details are something he cares deeply for, which translated into variations of handbags, leather jackets, belts, and buckles.
A variety of LV monogram trunks were presented on wheelbarrows as was the highly anticipated collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Timberland.
The show included female models, demonstrating the versatility of William’s collection and nodding at the future of menswear. Styles of traditional outerwear introduced in a warm color palette of browns and oranges that symbolized the spirit of the American West were paired with white button-downs. A cream embroidered suit was paired with a white button-down, a brown tie that featured a flower, a gold LV belt, and cowboy boots. Once again, we saw the hints of turquoise on the jacket buttons and earrings. This look was also paired with a large, hot pink LV monogram bag.
The show closed out into a winter background with fake snow falling as models did their final walk. This collection of eighty looks is by far one of Williams’ best and it is clear that the future of LV Menswear is bright.
