Menswear Style Stars to Follow This Spring

Menswear Style Stars to Follow This Spring

By: Liv Briley

In the fashion industry, we often put menswear on the backburner as the newest styles in womenswear shine. In this era of gender nonconformity and self-expression, menswear design is experiencing more diversity and freedom in styling than ever before. There are several men in the spotlight who are helping push this movement toward unapologetic expression forward. From bold colors and patterns to fresh takes on elegance, there is something for everyone in this group of menswear icons.

Paul Mescal

Fresh off his Academy Award-nominated performance in Aftersun, Paul Mescal has been turning heads on and off the screen. The Irish actor, also known for his role in hit series Normal People, experiments with different patterns and silhouettes in his looks that incorporate the most fun elements of streetwear. He tends to go for relaxed fits and neutral color palettes, but has recently been seen wearing more bold patterns and prints. Even his simple outfits feel playful, with wide collars on jackets and a near-constant presence of the Adidas logo in one aspect or another.

Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, the Creator expresses his personality and flair through everything from his music to his album art, and his style is no exception. A two-time Grammy Award-winning artist, his artistic talent is immense, and his clothing choices reflect his playful approach to his music and life. He frequently sports bright colors and patterns, often paired with hats and purses to further enhance his looks. Tyler’s outfits often incorporate preppy golf-inspired styles as well as traditional streetwear, making his signature style the perfect balance of traditional and modern menswear aesthetics.

Austin Butler

Though Austin Butler has been in the acting world for quite some time (remember his Nickelodeon days?), he has recently taken to star status following his Academy Award-nominated performance in Elvis. Since leaving his child actor status in the past, Butler has been embracing a chic style that reflects the era in which Elvis Presley himself was on stage. By styling high waisted trousers, dark color palettes, and sheer shirting under suits, Butler has put a new spin on what it means to be sophisticated in Hollywood. His red carpet outfits and streetwear choices are timeless and elegant, but still maintain a level of suave that only a Hollywood heartthrob could achieve.

Michael B. Jordan

Named “Sexiest Man Alive” by People Magazine in 2020, Michael B. Jordan is no stranger to the spotlight, and his style continues to amaze us just as much as his performances. From Black Panther to the Creed franchise, Jordan has been turning out huge hits for years. Perhaps lesser known than his acting skills is his effortless styling. Jordan’s style is difficult to describe in one way, as the star blends both modern and classic looks into his repertoire. Whether in a fitted tuxedo on the red carpet or a playful button down with matching sneakers, Jordan brings his star quality confidence to every outfit he wears.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is an incredibly accomplished Formula One racing driver, and the track is not the only place he likes to take risks. The driver’s style is daring and exuberant, always including bright pops of color and fresh designs. Hamilton is the perfect example of the evolving nature of menswear, playing around with different tailoring and structure techniques to add a bit of femininity and fun to otherwise classic pieces.

Harry Styles

We could not create a menswear icons list without including Harry Styles. Everyone is well aware of Styles and his playful style. One thing is certain of the superstar’s outfit choices: they will never be boring. Whether it be a Gucci jumpsuit or just a lively mix of patterns on stage, Styles is consistently at the forefront of the fashion world. He challenges gender norms in fashion and proves that men can wear glitter and jewelry and still be adored by the masses.

Though womenswear tends to spearhead the fashion narrative, menswear is just as exciting. As society progresses, menswear is as well, entering a new age where men can dress just as freely and have just as much diversity in styling as women. These men are just a few of the many who are helping to change the opinion on what it means to be a well-dressed man, and we could not be more excited to see how the fashion industry continues to grow.
