20 years ago, on March 24, 2006, the first episode of “Hannah Montana” premiered on Disney Channel. Little did Miley Cyrus know that this role would quickly change the trajectory of her life and influence an entire generation. Montana, with her infamous blonde wig and fabulous outfits, became the blueprint for pop music in the early 2000s. Now, two decades later, Cyrus reenters her Montana era.
For the first time in years, Cyrus has returned to her Disney roots. What made the show so culturally significant was not just its hit songs, but Cyrus’s duality. The show portrayed her as a relatable teenage girl while also perfectly blending the fantasy of stardom. Many viewers found themselves resonating with the show, as they were also navigating their own identities.
