Prada Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear

Prada Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear

By: Aliza Warner

Last week, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons presented their newest fall-winter womenswear collection for Prada, amazing everyone with its alluring details and interpretation of well-known fashion pieces. For this collection, Prada and Simons wanted to explore and redefine beauty, saying, “beauty here is determined not by aesthetic, but by action – garments are signs, representations of beauty care, of love, of reality.” This is achieved through the ingenuity and innovation of the many pieces we know and love, showing that sometimes the ultimate form of creativity is reinvention.

One of the unique aspects of this collection is the variety of color schemes and occasional prints. At the start of the collection, the color palette primarily consists of neutrals, mixing together in various forms. In the collection’s second half, brighter, pastel-like colors are showcased in the different pieces. Patterns and prints are minimal throughout the show, only making a few appearances in the collection in the form of long, stylish dresses. These switch-ups are exciting and provide a fun and unique surprise for every look.

This collection celebrates classic fashion pieces beautifully while adding modern touches and variations. Business casual pieces like blouses, blazers, trousers, and skirts appear but have elevated elements such as colorful collars or mesh and leather fabrics. The dresses are reminiscent of the basic structure and style of dresses in earlier years of Prada’s history.

Accessories continued the theme of combining classic forms and fun additional elements. The heels throughout the collection are beautifully crafted, some maintaining a simple elegance, while others come in bright colors with geometric pieces jutting off the shoe. The handbags, shaped in a trapezoid-like form, come in various colors and are paired with many looks.

The collection takes innovation to new heights with each piece. From skirts with detailed floral embroidery to the reconceptualization of the puffer jacket in the form of mini skirts and dresses, each piece has a unique and modern spin to breathe life into timeless clothing items.

Imaginativeness is an essential quality in this collection, creating memorable visuals, honoring the roots of fashion, and reimagining what we know to help create a new perspective.
