Proenza Schouler’s 2023 Resort Collection

By: Hailey Layne

Composed of thirty looks, Proenza Schouler’s new resort collection of unique evening wear and workwear-inspired pieces included velvet, sequins, and knitwear.

Sharp contrasts created shape by showcasing a cinched waist and full skirt in the looks. Alternating between fitted bustier tops and heavy, draping materials, viewers were kept guessing as to what would appear next.

The sparkling evening wear looks featured bright hues of orange, lavender, and gold. Sequins were embedded into the column dresses, but refused to detract from the vibrant hues of the fabric. A velvet, robin’s egg co-ord A robin’s egg blue, velvet co-ord set seemed to reinvent the 90s tracksuit; it featured a high neck and puff sleeves.

Diverse textures were the defining trait of the collection. Narrow pleats created a crimp-like pattern on numerous knitwear outfits. Several of the jackets and blazers included large statement buttons along the sleeves. Keeping with the button theme, gemstones replaced traditional buttons in several of the evening wear looks. Layered tops reminiscent of mini dresses were paired with coordinating flared pants andlunky shoes to round out the ensemble. The overall impression of the collection’s stylistic mood was feminine yet utilitarian. The resort collection’s playful textiles and colors stayed true to the brand.

Stay tuned for more collection recaps as the resort season wraps up and the upcoming season quickly approaches.
