Jacquemus "Le Chouchou"

On June 26, Simon Porte Jacquemus presented his latest collection, “Le Chouchou,” right on the shore of Versailles’ Grand Canal as guests watched from their personal boats. As each model walked the cherry red runway, “Le Chouchou” created an essence of vibrancy and sophistication, all while displaying unique details that capture the eye.

Puff sleeves, skirts, and shorts were incorporated into many of the looks in the show, creating a grand, regal image. The puff shorts and skirts were layered under other skirts or over stockings and trousers, resembling the wider skirts and silhouettes of 18th-century fashion. The “puff” silhouettes are seen in other pieces too, such as a one-sided, off-the-shoulder sleeve or in the entire silhouette of a mini dress, creating an ambiance of fun and eccentricity.

Details and variety are what make clothing unique and unexpected in the best of ways, and this is displayed in the fabrics and embellishments Jacquemus chose. The mesh lace with floral embroidery on the stockings, bead-like embellishments on fabric, leather for trench coats, and rosetta flowers on a suit’s jacket are all small yet effective details that tie the collection together.

A signature for Jacquemus, handbags and purses are significant in this collection too. From chic white handbags with gold rims and cherry-red clutches to miniature purses that match their respective looks, these accessories are not a hidden styling choice but rather another shining aspect of the collection.

In the collection, there was a dual sense of creativity and nostalgic familiarity when it came to the jewelry and shoes. The cherry necklace was both beautifully structured and memorable. Many of the shoes resemble ballet flats but are structured as a heel or a boot. A layered pearl choker necklace with a sapphire jewel in the center, similar to an iconic piece that Princess Diana once wore, stole the show and conveyed Jacquemus’ long held appreciation for the late princess and her style.

The majority of the looks used the colors of the French flag. These colors appeared monochromatically in some looks and combined into various patterns in others. With the last three looks in the collection, each of the colors were showcased in billowing gowns, starting with blue, followed by white, and ending in red.

“Le Chouchou” is a collection that presents beautiful intricacy of details, colors, and creates another exciting, aesthetically pleasing show for Jacquemus.
