Tattoos as Accessories

Tattoos as Accessories

By Hardy Greene

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. They have been used to distinguish people, establish hierarchy, punish, and decorate the body. Now, we see tattoos used as a multicultural facet of self-expression. Tattoos often mean something important to the person on which they lie. However, as they become more commonplace, many add the art to their bodies simply because they look cool.

Tattoos provide people the unique opportunity to establish a permanent accessory through a ritualistic form that has been used for thousands of years. This practice has become less and less taboo, allowing people to utilize the art form as an aspect of self expression, making the imagery a part their bodies forever.

This has encouraged a wave of new art styles being used on those who want to permanently decorate their body. These recent tattoo trends are spearheaded by the overwhelming takeover of patchwork. These patchwork pieces are shown off by influencers in all spheres, creating a massive wave of demand. These pieces work well with outfits to create a sort of permanent accessory through art.

As tattoos continue to grow more popular, it is likely trends will continue to shift. Nevertheless, the idea of having art on one’s body for eternity will remain interesting forever.
