Tokyo Fashion Week: Street Style Roundup

Tokyo Fashion Week: Street Style Roundup

By: Tyler Leik

Tokyo Fashion Week has begun its comeback after years of continued COVID-19 restrictions across the country. Many still deem this event the largest fashion festival in Japan but hope the shows can soon reclaim their place amongst international chatter. While the runways are the main event, it is outside the shows and throughout the streets of Tokyo where the fashion really shines.

Vogue has deemed Tokyo the “next generation of street stylers,” a claim that has proved true after this year’s Fashion Week events. From minimalistic and monochromatic looks to Hysteric Glamour pieces flaunting the classic American style and over-the-top maximalism, we have nearly seen it all.

The Japanese brand Hysteric Glamour is an ode to American fashion throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

The aesthetic of the classic American style makes itself known through various memorabilia, like this Yankees hat.

Monochromatic maximalism showcases itself through layers of patterns, textures, and fabrics.

Another ode to New York with a vintage Coach handbag.

Various textures and well-paired fabrics take these looks up a notch.
