Valentino Spring 2023 Couture

Days leading up to their show at Paris Haute Couture Week, hints were given on Valentino’s Instagram about what the newest collection would be like with sentiments like “the energy, the sound, the feel of couture,” and “a spontaneous language, sparked by disparate inspirations.” What was to be expected of this collection was vibrancy, coherent diversity, and of course, the awe-inspiring art we see in the world of couture. Pierpailo Piccioli’s “Le Club Couture” collection shows us just that with the fun, thrilling energy of haute couture paired with Valentino’s signature style.

The collection used numerous fabrics, embellishments, and shapes in unique and exciting ways. Ribbons, bows, feathers, ruffles, and florals are incorporated into the structure of each look. Holographic and embellished fabrics shimmer on the runway, including large paillette sequins on mini dresses and gowns. Geometrical and naturistic patterns like polka dots, stripes, and, again, florals also make into the design of outfits throughout the collection.

Cut-outs in the collection showed ingenuity and made looks appear more lavish. The cut-outs were of all shapes and sizes, used intentionally in each outfit to create dimension and draw the eye in. Some of the cut-outs were even used for a repetitive pattern technique.

This collection also displayed Piccioli’s signature Valentino pieces and color schemes, which are always masterfully done. The long, flowing capes, the full and vibrant color scheme, bold accessories, elbow-length gloves, and of course, breathtaking gowns all made an appearance.

What made this couture collection thrilling was all of the different elements that worked together as a cohesive unit. Putting different colors, fabrics, and designs into one look can sometimes be unharmonious, but that was never the case in this collection. Every look embraced extravagance, which is what haute couture is all about.
