Winter is Coming
Winter Is Coming: Top 5 Fall and Winter Trends for 2020
By: Eleanor Hoover
Although the First Day of Fall was September 22, October has a special ring to it that screams “get me into warmer clothes!” Here, in Oxford, fluctuating temperatures have not allowed for a full transition to a fall wardrobe, but there is no reason not to plan ahead. The Fall and Winter 2020 Seasons center around chic comfort and putting a spin on classic staples. As temperatures begin to cool off, shorts are replaced with pants, t-shirts with sweaters, and sandals with boots, look ahead to what trends to watch for this fall and winter season.
A Fringe Fling
Whether it be from the wild west of the late 1800’s or 1920’s flapper girls, fringe is always fun. This season, look out for fringe in a variety of variations on coats, boots, and everything in between.
Your Dad’s Button Down
There is nothing quite as nostalgic as an oversized button-down that falls on the shoulders just right. Paired with jeans, belted as a dress, or peeking out from under a sweater, you can never go wrong with a classic button-down shirt.
Leather--Everything
Leather will not just be resting on your shoulders as a jacket but taking over all of your outfits. Easy to pair and transition from day to night, leather looks--both in black and vibrant colors--will dominate fall fashion.
Not-Your-Average Trouser
Face it: trousers can be boring and generally reflect a corporate look. This fall, however, get ready to buckle your ankle straps and show off fun detailing that elevates a basic pant into a trendy, chic outfit.
Remember Cardigans? They’re Back.
Cardigans may remind you of a Blair Waldorf moment from Gossip Girl, but they are back and more comfortable than ever. Some are cropped, some embroidered, but they all come together to create cozy looks for both inside and outside the home.
Incorporating these elements into your fall/winter wardrobe will set you up to look chic, feel cozy, and make a statement with basic staples that will never go out of style. To keep your items feeling timeless, consider choosing neutrals that will never lose their cool in seasons to come.
