22 Ways to Support Local Businesses in Oxford

By: Elena Ossoski

It’s easy to default to the convenience of Amazon, Starbucks, and Target when you are looking for quick solutions to everyday wants. The holiday season seems to make life feel as if it is flying by faster than usual, so these quick fixes become more tempting as Christmas Day gets closer. Here are 22 ways to support local businesses in Oxford as our snow globe town radiates peace, quiet, and the Christmas spirit through the New Year.

  1. Get your morning caffeine fix at Uptown Coffee.

  2. Thank and tip the baristas.

  3. If you are lucky to get there early enough, the bouquets from Farmstead Florals are sold right outside of Uptown Coffee and they make a great hostess gift for a holiday party.

  4. Pick up a pastry or two for breakfast at Bottletree Bakery.

  5. If you need a new coat to brace the colder temperatures, shop the selection at Style Assembly.

  6. By now you will probably need another coffee, so stop in at Cabin 82 located in the lobby of the Graduate Hotel.

  7. To add a pop of color to your holiday season wardrobe, check out the purses at Jane.

  8. No outfit is complete without the perfect pair of party platforms and Village Tailor conveniently carries the latest from Loeffler Randall.

  9. As you are making your way around the Square, thank the employees for their time and assistance.

  10. Stop by Square Books for gifts for the people in your life who seemingly have everything.

  11. See if Proud Larry’s is hosting any local artists soon and buy a ticket or spread the news.

  12. Shop the candle selection at Cicada for the perfect gift for your favorite homebody.

  13. When it is time for lunch, head over to Volta for Greek-inspired food.

  14. Or, to the Wiggly’s food truck for a California-style burrito.

  15. Once again, leave a tip!

  16. Also, do not forget to say thank you.

  17. Tell someone about the great meal you just had.

  18. Walk down to the University of Mississippi Museum to admire the latest exhibition showcasing the work of Jacob Hashimoto.

  19. Get Mississippi-grown produce from Chicory Market the next time you grocery shop.

  20. The Oxford Community Market is another great place for produce, fresh bread, and other locally grown goodies. Stop by the market on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.

  21. Donate shelf-stored items at The Pantry.

  22. Share a picture of your favorite business on the Square on social media.
