Architectural Digest Turns Celebrity Homes Into Cultural Phenomena

By Kelly Hoang — March 12, 2026

Architectural Digest has quietly taken over our “For You” pages and Pinterest boards. On top of that, they have become social sensations. Whenever a new Architectural Digest “Open Door” video drops, not only does the home decor become a major topic, but so does the celebrity. Accounts, whether about design or pop culture, will dissect every square foot of the house, catapulting the homeowner into relevance.

Celebrity homes now sit at the intersection of design, branding, and culture. An Architectural Digest feature is no longer just a house tour, but rather the pinnacle of taste, relevance, and status. With the anticipatory nature of these videos, they have now become the modern-day cultural stamp of approval.

Many celebrities’ homes have become iconic. For example, Kim Kardashian’s Hidden Hills home has caused uproar on the internet due to its lack of color. With its on-brand monochromatic, minimalist, yet luxurious style, Kardashian says that it's her “sanctuary” in the midst of her busy life.

Kardashian’s sister, Kendall Jenner, has also been featured in Architectural Digest. Her most recent feature included her home in the Los Angeles mountains. Her interior designer, Heidi Caillier, did the opposite of Kim, tapping into the “grandma-chic” charm and adorning the house with floral patterns, rich colors, and warm woods.

Of course, many iconic pop culture moments have come from Architectural Digest videos. The most notable is Dakota Johnson’s mid-century modern home, more specifically, her kitchen. With Johnson’s viral green kitchen cabinets, and of course, her infamous bowl of limes. Even after Johnson revealed that she was allergic to limes, the moment lives on with the now-trending “lime green” cabinets.
