Romanticizing Your Life

Romanticizing Your Life

By: Briley Rakow

With classes starting and routines for the semester being formed, there is no better time to start romanticizing everyday activities to make the school year a little less monotonous. Learning to enjoy simple things each day and finding small ways to take care of yourself can help to keep a positive mindset among the stress that comes with school being back in session. Romanticizing your life is not just about changing your way of thinking, but about incorporating activities that make your life more enjoyable without taking up too much time.

Sometimes the first step to making life feel a little more romantic is your location. After all, what is a good movie scene without some ambiance? Things as simple as where you study and do homework can have a huge impact on your motivation and attention. Break up your day by trying somewhere new to hang out or do work that has a better atmosphere than the library or your desk at home. Local coffee shops like High Point Coffee and Heartbreak Coffee have lots of seating for anyone looking to get things done while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.

If being outside is your thing, find a picnic table in the Grove or a spot at Lamar Park to read or ponder life while wistfully watching the world around you (that is, after all, a major requirement of any true main character.) As cliche as it may seem, taking time for mindfulness is an effective way to stay in tune with your feelings and in the right headspace to be productive. Try taking time in the morning to journal or meditate to start your day off right and feel like a true “that girl” as your emotional health takes the forefront in your life.

Making your life romantic can keep you motivated, and there is no better way to feel like the “it girl” in your favorite show than to always dress the part. Whether this means wearing your favorite workout on a walk while listening to your favorite podcast or dressing up to run errands for the day, looking your best has a habit of making you feel confident and energized.

If you feel especially romantic, head to your favorite restaurant or coffee shop and grab a table for one. Eating a nice meal alone is incredibly empowering and tends to have more “girl boss” energy than heating up leftovers at home. When your life feels romantic, you have more confidence in yourself and independence in your daily activities. Staying on top of your work does not have to equate to a monotonous and boring schedule. Romanticizing little moments in life can help lift your mood and keep you focused for longer periods of time throughout the day. Everyday can feel like a movie if you take steps to do little things that bring you joy as often as you can.
