Where Are They Now? with Lauren Scott

Where Are They Now? with Lauren Scott

Lauren Scott rounded out her four years at Ole Miss with a degree in Business Marketing and another in Psychology, but let’s not forget that she also left behind a legacy of absurdly buzz-worthy style.

“My style is fun yet unpredictable. My style most definitely changes with my mood. I don’t like to be confined, and I think that’s why I like clothes and fashion so much. You can wake up each day and decide what look you want to go with, which side of yourself you want to present to the world.”

After growing up forty-five minutes outside of downtown Nashville, Scott found herself drawn to the community of people that Ole Miss breeds: “They say that there is a distinction between “The University” and “Ole Miss,” and I’ve come to find that it is very true! This school is all about the people. I miss the little moments I had with friends and acquaintances on campus as well as around Oxford more than anything else.”

While she was enrolled, Scott was extremely involved in Omega's Order, an honors organization on campus. She was also an integral part of the Phi Mu Alpha Delta Chapter's public relations and recruitment committees.

“Being involved in my sorority and around campus gave me experience in public relations and management, and all the while, I got to work with my friends.”

Scott’s sense of style is intriguing: “The 60s and 70s have always been my favorite fashion decades. There was a lot of change in women’s fashion alongside the societal changes that were in motion. I love how the 60s were all about straight, modern lines. You can see them in the clothes, make-up, and hair. At the same time, I love how everything became looser in the following decade: feathered hair, wide-leg pants, and more women wearing menswear.”

Scott is never one to shy away from a piece simply because it doesn’t fit into one single category or ‘style”. One of her favorite pieces to style is a simple black turtleneck since its versatility and comfort opens the door to countless styling options. Her playful approach to dressing is a continuous source of inspiration because it’s out of the box while remaining wearable.

“I think it’s important to have classic items, usually basics and more tailored pieces because they are fail-safes; you can’t go wrong. Plus, a good outfit, in my opinion, is one that starts with the basics and then builds with trendy items. Fashion should be fun, so I try to not stress too much about if something is “too trendy” or “too done,” if I like it and in my gut, I’ll feel good wearing it, I’m going to wear it.”

One of the best ways to see Scott’s impeccable style in full-force is through her social media activity: “I knew for a while before I started my channel that I wanted to do it and I knew for even longer that I was enthralled with content creation on a personal level." For a long time, fear held me back from going for it and making the channel! What really tipped was my friendship with Lindy Goodson, who I’d watched begin her channel and her fearlessness encouraged me! I do hope to continue my channel post-grad and grow with it. It has been a bit of an obstacle transitioning so abruptly from undergrad to post-grad life (vlogging from your childhood home just hits differently). I have ideas, and I’m looking forward to continuing to be creative on Youtube!”

Scott has an undeniable knack for creating unique and engaging social media content. Still, she is currently focused on using her digital platforms of choice as creative outlets and sources of entertainment. Her talent will take her far as she plans to venture into the marketing field, which has begun to revolve around social media over the last few years.

“Everyone has heard the, ‘Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life,’ advice and I have a lot of fun with social media! I love the idea of content creation as a job, but to some extent, I think I would struggle to keep it fun if I made a successful hustle out of my accounts. That’s not to say that I’m not striving to make that a potential job option; I really have to be honest with myself on what a career would look like as a content creator would mean for my mental health and make sure I prepare myself properly before diving head-first into that world. However, I see myself working in the marketing industry in the future, which now, of course, inherently involves social media and graphic design.”

Scott’s recent collaboration with Tatcha Skincare.

“I get most of my inspiration through social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest - especially Pinterest. I love to follow different celebrities, influencers, and of course, friends — I absorb inspiration from all of them!”

“Enjoy every day because college is an awesome time (duh), and it’s a time of certainty. Post-grad sets you adrift a bit even though it’s exciting; it’s scary too! Also, you’re living in the same town as all your best friends! I didn’t realize how much I took that for granted. If you have the opportunity, take a summer to do an internship in your major field. Not only will it help you later in your job search, but it will let you see inside that industry a bit and affirm that it is the place for you.”
