8 Summer Nail Styles to Try This August

By: Katie Kerrigan

A fresh manicure can be the perfect accessory, adding a confidence boost for your week and an opportunity to showcase your personal style. Everyone does their nails a little differently, and each season brings on a fresh new wave of style inspiration.

Summers are about sunshine, fun, and beating the heat. Why not have your nails match the energy of a perfect beach day?

Before you get your heart set on a design, it is important to know what type of nail you are looking for. Do you prefer your natural nails, or do you like the look of acrylics better? Are you a fan of length, or would you rather keep your nails shortly trimmed? Whatever you choose, make sure you pick something that suits your lifestyle.

Some of the larger trends seen this year have paid homage to the wavy and minimalistic designs of the 1970s. Whether they are done with bright colors or more muted tones, there is no denying they have become a style staple no matter the season. The classic French tip is still very present as well, spiced up with an array of colors. While some styles are ready for any season, summer is a great time to try out new and fun nail styles.

Watermelon

Use earthy tones to add dimension to a pastel pink and green watermelon design that will blend in at any backyard barbecue.

Sunflower

Sunflowers symbolize warm weather and sunshine, and their signature bright yellow adds an extra edge to any look. For some added realism, use a darker brown for the center and a light green for the leaves or stem.

Daisy

Daisies are a simple and classically beautiful nail design that is deceptively easy to achieve. The white petals and yellow center can be painted on with a toothpick. Use a base color like pastel blue or pink to emphasize each color. This extra touch will create a realistic depth that will be sure to achieve compliments.

Rainbow

Arrange colors in order to create the design. To expand beyond the traditional rainbow, this design can also be done with pastels or even different shades of the same hue for a monochromatic effect.

Summer skies

Sunsets and blue skies are two key signs of summer and make for a stylish manicure. Layer lavender, pink, and orange together for a sunset ombré effect, or utilize a vibrant blue and add fluffy white clouds.

Pastel

Pastels are a classic way to achieve a clean, sophisticated look. They add a subtle pop of color without being distracting, making them a chic and versatile choice.

Bold stripes

Whether the stripes are horizontal, vertical, or angled into a geometric design, these nails can be matched with any outfit for an edgy look. Use neutral tones for an elegant appearance or brighter hues for an extra pop of color.

Metallic

Metallics are an adaptable and sharp way to showcase an extra bit of edge. They blend seamlessly with any outfit for a formal aesthetic, and can also be easily paired with makeup for a coordinated appearance.

Fashion and accessories are made for self-expression, and there is no reason your nails have to be any different. Take inspiration from the season and have some fun with your nails this summer.
