Dispatches From the Weekend: An Ode to Skincare

Dispatches from the Weekend: An Ode to Skincare

By: Rachel Long

This might be weird, but I have to emotionally prepare myself and my skin before going out on the weekend. Going out means something different to everyone - from eating junk food to parties (socially distanced) or enjoying a few drinks - but before I do any or all of those things, I have to check in with my skin. Knowing that there is the potential to get a pimple after some days of less healthy decisions, I have to prepare myself emotionally for the aftermath.

I have concocted a regimen that helps me and my skin maintain a semblance of togetherness in the hopes of avoiding a breakout when Monday morning arrives. My favorite products range from $-$$$. As a college student, I can’t just get a facial or a new mask whenever I desire. Hopefully, these product recommendations will help you decide whether or not to go out on the weekend.

First up, my holy grail. The Versed Clarifying Serum is a perfect night or day on freshly washed skin. I hate when serums are too sticky or too watery, this is the ideal consistency. This serum helps clean your pores and refresh them after a long weekend.

This CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser is a TikTok favorite that lives up to the hype. My mom has been using this for years, but @skincarebyhyram raved about it, and in July, I couldn’t get my hands on a bottle at Target. Now that the craze has settled down, I am always stocked and ready with this face wash. It truly cleans your skin and ensures that your face is a blank palette for your routine after showering.

Drunk Elephant has some incredible products, and some that I think are overpriced, but this Vitamin C serum is worth the price tag. My Co-Editor Lucy Cavett raved about this, and I knew I had to try it. Vitamin C is so good for your skin, buffing away dead skin cells, brightening acne spots, and incorporating anti-aging properties into your skincare routine.

Simple is one of my all-time favorite drugstore brands. The Replenishing Moisturizer is incredible. With a gel-like texture, you might think that it would lose its richness, but alas, the watery texture allows it to truly sink into your skin for the ultimate nourishment.

Last but definitely not least, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is the only lip balm I swear by. I use this morning and night to revive chapped lips, significantly when the months change cold weather approaches. After a weekend out, your lips are bound to need some TLC, and this product will restore them to their most moisturized state.

I hope one of these products helps you determine if you are prepared for a weekend out. Knowing that I can help eliminate a pimple before it occurs makes me all the more excited to have a fun time with friends.
