Which Facial Roller is Right for You?
Which Facial Roller is Right for You?

Skincare tools have become quite the craze this past year, particularly when it comes to different types of facial rollers. Whether it be ice rollers, jade rollers, or gua shas, everyone has their own opinion on which offers the best benefits. The question is: which face roller is best for my skin type?
Perhaps the first skincare roller to rise to prominence, jade and quartz rollers have been on the scene for a while. Featuring two differently sized rollers on either end of the handle, the nonporous materials allow for rolling without exfoliating the face or causing irritation. The main purpose of using these is to help stimulate the lymph nodes in the face to drain fluids, offering a reduction in puffiness. Any sort of facial massage promotes circulation to the face as well, which can help the skin appear brighter and firmer. These effects are temporary, so the rollers are most effective when used in the morning.
Gua shas are not necessarily rollers, but they are used in a similar manner. The tool is used to scrape the skin gently away from the center of the face to promote circulation while also helping tighten the skin. Gua shas also help with temporarily reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, but only if these lines are fairly new to the skin. If you struggle with any muscle tension in your face, a gua sha is the most helpful skincare tool to help relieve any built-up tension.
Between TikTok and Instagram, ice rollers have been taking over the facial roller conversation lately. Similar to jade rollers, they are used mainly to depuff the skin. However, they are stored in the fridge to add the benefits of cold pressure on the skin. This can aid in reducing inflammation and potential breakouts from the combined effects that result from increased blood flow and the cold temperatures. Much like other icy products, ice rollers can also be used to relieve pain. When struggling with a headache, you can ice roll your face to soothe the pain, even if the relief is only temporary. These can be used any time of day, but like all rollers, they should be used on a makeup-free face to avoid rubbing any harmful products into the skin.
Using any – or a combination – of these tools can certainly be beneficial for your skin. If you only have time for one, it is important to know what benefits each tool provides and how they will address your specific skincare needs.
