12 Holiday Looks Inspired by our Christmas Favorites
By: Anne Clark Harvey and Abi-Leigh Doss
One of the best parts of the season is turning on the T.V. and seeing Hoda and Jenna talking about hot chocolate charcuterie boards, or hearing Dolly Parton and Jimmy Fallon’s rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” With Jimmy Fallon schmoozing his audience in a full-blown Santa costume, it gives Mariah Carey’s version a serious run for the money! But, let us recall our most favorite part of it all. With our eyes glued to the screens in our homes, we can’t help but notice the dazzling, fashion-rich movies and T.V. shows that were made for the holiday season.
The combination of Christmas magic with cinema expertise is something to truly relish. Perhaps the main character of our holiday favorites isn't the characters at all, but the fashion they are wearing--desperately wishing we could handpick them from the screen to hang in our closet. Santa, really, tell us if this is too much to ask!
Below we’ve highlighted our Top 12 Holiday Looks, inspired by some of our favorite leading ladies in this countdown to Christmas. Grab some peppermint to mix into your hot chocolate while we obsess over them ALL!
If only we had somewhere to wear these bright blue beauties and tulle skirts! The holiday cinema masterpiece White Christmas gave us an iconic outfit we will never forget.
Every power couple must have power coats, right? The fur-lined coat that fits your figure is what every girl needs for a date as footloose and fancy-free as Graham and Amanda’s in The Holiday.
While this outfit is not from any particular Christmas moment, we must take a moment to ponder if there is anything Carrie Bradshaw can’t do? No, seriously. Even in the early 2000s, Carrie brings the blue forward in her closet, as we all should be doing this season for its unique flair. Hers is made of the perfect touch of blue and green. The way her curls fall on her metallic cream blazer throughout the finale of SATC is the pinnacle of what Botticelli envisioned for his Birth of Venus centuries before. Glorious.
We aren’t through with The Holiday just yet… In her winter white, Cameron Diaz SHINES, and the outfit is made complete with a matching white handbag and black leather gloves.
Nothing beats a Netflix original, and we love the fashion in The Knight before Christmas! Vanessa Hudgens’s sweaters are something to remember with their feminine yet straightforward design.
Do we even have to explain this one? Eloise in Eloise at Christmastime knows a thing or two about the Plaza, Christmas, and the importance of matching one's winter coat with all accessories. She may be tiny, but she 100% belongs in the office next to Anna Wintour.
From the soft blue to the frills and ruffles, this Christmas dress classic is what our holiday party dreams are made of. Seeing all the blue style choices appear in these old classics (White Christmas and It’s A Wonderful Life) has us romanticizing our own lives. They also have us wishing for the same beautiful blues that carried such lovely stars across the silver screen to get in our closet already!
This sleek 1990s movie is simple--yet dreamy. Kathleen Kelly’s involuntary style in You’ve Got Mail consists mostly of button-down cardigans and turtleneck sweaters, which are all we want for Christmas!
The Preacher’s Wife is a sweet film starring the fabulous Whitney Houston and leaves us wanting a long winter coat in every color (and also wishing we were ice skating with Denzel Washington!)
Even when this girl is in her frumpy clothes, she makes it a total LOOK. Go, Amanda Woods! Snuggly, warm and knit-together perfectly, she has so much fun settling into her English cottage and screaming the lyrics to “Mr. Brightside” in this comfy combination.
It’s the holiday season on the upper east side, and Serena van der Woodsen is anything but unprepared. Thick tights, a button-down tie waistcoat, black leather gloves, and a scarf are sure to keep van der Woodsen from freezing in the NYC temperatures as she makes the quick dash from a building’s doors to her cab.
Christmas is a time like no other for pajamas, and there is nothing quite as fabulous as Carrie dressing up hers for the frigid, snowy streets of New York City. We can only wish to have a sequin beanie wrapped tightly on our heads this Christmas, but for now, we’d grab a fuzzy, warm jacket to throw over our pajamas as we run out the door with our Mississippi weather.
