4 Trend Predictions for 2024

4 Trend Predictions for 2024

By: Akilah Frye

As we transition into the new year and begin to anticipate the trends of 2024, it is clear that nostalgia and creativity will be guiding forces in fashion for the new year.

The theme of minimalistic looks with accent pieces gained prominence in 2023. The emphasis on simplicity while still being functional and deliberately choosing accent pieces makes a powerful statement. The minimalism appeal aligns with the idea that quality and design should be a top priority. Classic looks withstand the test of time, making them a sustainable choice for long-term design.

Oversized tailoring transformed the signature look of tailored separates. The elevated look of a tailored suit has turned into a contemporary style that took off in 2023. Recently, we have seen designers play on the oversized suit look, allowing the relaxed fit to turn into a streetwear and high fashion combination. In 2022, Dua Lipa showed up to the Variety Hitmakers’ Brunch wearing an oversized suit from The Attico; this trend carried into 2023 and will continue to rule throughout 2024.

Footwear is constantly evolving, but with nostalgia still at the root of a lot of fashion trends, sneakers of the 1980s and 1990s dominated in 2023. New sneakers may spark the ideas of consumers, but sneakers like Sambas and New Balances have a timeless look that will reign for the new year.

Sheer and lace was a look that many did not expect to trend in 2023. Making a statement through lace or sheer fabric was a driving force in dramatic looks this year. From Versace to Louis Vuitton, lace and sheer components add a thoughtful detail to pieces. While minimalistic looks have ruled, accent pieces made of lace and sheer material can bring a look together while adding complexity.

As we look to fashion in 2024, the continuation of these loved trends will intersect nostalgia with contemporary flair.
