5 Trends That Will Shape Your Wardrobe This Fall

5 Trends That Will Shape Your Wardrobe This Fall

By Emma Williams — October 31st, 2024

We can finally pull out our sweaters and shake the dust off our favorite boots. Fall is upon us, and with the season changing comes fall’s long-awaited trends.

Colorful Layers

Who says we have to put away our bright-colored sweaters? Harper’s Bazaar’s Senior Fashion & Accessories Editor Jaclyn A. Cohen says they are here to stay. Whether it’s bright-colored separates or color-blocked cardigans and crew-necks, pairing these styles with ballet flats can create a perfectly preppy attitude this fall. Some pieces on the market to help create this look are the single-button sweater by Daily Drills and J. Crew’s cashmere crew neck sweater. Button the top of your cardigan and layer up all season long before the colder weather hits!

Bohemian Elegance

“There’s a bohemian mood about this season,” Laura Jackson and Talia Abbas write in Vogue’s article following the season’s latest trends. Chloé’s fall/winter collection shown at Paris Fashion Week exhibited boho style by mixing ruffled blouses with wide-leg jeans and chunky gold belts. Other items that are helping us find the boho look include Reformation’s high-rise wide-leg jeans, Bottega Veneta’s A-line pleated, suede midi skirt, Ulla Johnson’s  orange midi leather skirt, and STAUD’s straight-leg trousers.

Leopard Print

Leopard print spread like wildfire this spring and summer. Leopard print boots, coats, and skirts are all the rage. As Cohen states, “It may even be safe to say that leopard is the new neutral.” Mango’s print straight-fit coat, Theory’s mini trouser-skirt, and Abercrombie and Fitch’s slip midi dress are three fabulous leopard pieces to complete any look.

Boots That Reach New Heights

Boots have always marked the transition from summer to autumn, however, this year their role is more important than ever. Over-the-knee boots are capturing attention due to Chloé’s trendy collections. These boots can be paired with a mini dress or scrunched down with cropped denim. They match the bohemian attitude of this season and transform any outfit into a statement look. If you are in the mood for a lighter, more effortless look, mid-calf boots are also making their way into fall, according to Cosmopolitan’s Fashion Editor Tarah-Lynn Saint-Elien and Gucci’s fall/winter collection. The Campus 14L Frye boot is a popular style to sport with midi skirts and leather mini dresses.

T-bar shoes & Glove flats

We’ve seen Mary Janes throughout the year, however, this season they have evolved into T-bar shoes which feature an extra strap. Designers such as Miu Miu, Ferragamo, and Dries Van Noten have heavily featured this shoe. Tory Burch’s T-strap ballet flat can be a smart addition to your closet. The cousin of the Mary Jane is the ballet flat; a shoe that has ruled 2024. As we ease into fall, designers have taken a more simple approach to the classic silhouette through the glove flat. With pieces such as Bottega Veneta’s mesh ballet flat and Jeffrey Campbell’s Romp Flat, you can create a chic look in any scenario.
