Margot Robbie’s Best Looks on the Barbie Press Tour

Margot Robbie’s Best Looks on the Barbie Press Tour

By: Kate Kimberlin

Greta Gerwig’s newest, highly anticipated film Barbie concluded its press tour with a world premiere in Los Angeles this week. With the film’s official release coming in less than two weeks, fans and fashion critics alike have been studying the styling that have come out of the tour. While the principle cast have all been making waves, lead Margot Robbie and stylist Andrew Mukamal have kept the internet abuzz with looks styled almost exclusively from vintage Barbie dolls.

The First Barbie (1959)

On the first stop of the tour in Sydney, Robbie paid homage to the very first Barbie Mattel produced in 1959. She wears a black and white Hervé Léger dress, black Manolo Blahnik heels, and white cat-eye sunglasses.

Day to Night Barbie (1985)

For the Seoul premiere, Mukamal dressed Robbie in both looks from the 1985 Day to Night Barbie. Both the power suit and dress are custom Versace, complete with pink and white heels by Manolo Blahnik, and a Judith Leiber rhinestone clutch in the shape of a retro brick phone.

Sparkling Pink Barbie (1964)

Robbie channeled the 1960s for a Seoul press look from Moschino. The studded set is from a 2015 collection, and is paired with pink heeled mules from Manolo Blahnik and pearl earrings from Tiffany & Co. The pillbox hat ties the look to the doll, but the change in shade adds a more modern edge.

Earring Magic Barbie (1992)

For the premiere in Mexico City, Robbie is in a pink leather dress drawing inspiration from the 1990’s Earring Magic Barbie. Her accessories match the doll to a tee, including a silver belly chain with an attached star medallion, silver chain drop earrings with heart and star-shaped pendants, The look is topped off with bright pink Manolo Blahnik pumps.

Totally Hair Barbie (1992)

The press day in Mexico City emulates the 25th anniversary Totally Hair doll. Robbie is in mod-inspired Emillio Pucci, along with hot pink Manolo Blahnik pumps. Mukamal added his own high fashion touch with this look, having Robbie wear Chanel drop earrings with the look.

Solo in the Spotlight Barbie (1960)

At the highly anticipated world premiere this week, Robbie sported a non-pink ensemble for the first time since the start of the press tour. In Schiaparelli Haute Couture, complete with almost 400 carats in real diamonds for accessories, Margot paid tribute to the vintage Solo in the Spotlight Barbie. The look was identical to the doll, down to the pink handkerchief in hand.

Margot Robbie and Andrew Mukamal have made an example of just how joyful fashion on press tours can be. The attention to detail raised excitement for the film for months on end while simultaneously showcasing incredible work from several fashion houses. The Barbie press tour is one that will live on, and hopefully set the bar for the future.
