How Coach is Making a Comeback

How Coach is Making a Comeback

By: Claire Watkiss

The Original American House of Leather, Coach, has come a long way since its founding in 1941. Known for its iconic leather handbags once worn by our mothers and grandmothers, the brand is seemingly making a comeback.

While Coach has a long history of success, the brand saw a need for change in the early 2000s. In an effort to reach younger generations, the brand adapted an online presence, updated their logo, redesigned their stores, and reinvented their classic pieces. An updated version of one of their most famous silhouettes, the Tabby shoulder bag, was released in 2019, and a pillow version was created in 2021.

Their online presence is reaching younger generations with captivating ads on TikTok and influencers sporting their bags. Various celebrities have endorsed the brand and consumers are catching on.

The brand has also stayed true to its roots: quality leather. Every piece is made with the finest craftsmanship, proving to last for generations. Coach has also been successful aside from handbags. Luggage, accessories, and their ready-to-wear lines continue to attract customers.

In a recent effort to appeal to Gen Z, Coach birthed Coachtopia, an offshoot company of the brand that makes colorful, eclectic handbags and clothing created from recycled materials. The brand saw a need in the changing climate of the fashion industry to appeal to environmentally conscious shoppers, and Coachtopia was a great avenue to do so. You can read more about it here

While trends are constantly changing and consumers are looking for the next best thing, brands must stay relevant by adopting new strategies. The story of Coach’s comeback proves that a brand can both adapt and reinvent themselves in the fashion industry.
