Balmain Pieces Stolen Before Paris Fashion Week
Balmain Pieces Stolen Before Paris Fashion Week
By: Liv Briley
On Saturday, September 16, mystery struck the fashion world as Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing announced on Instagram that nearly 50 pieces from the brand’s upcoming collection were stolen off of a hijacked truck. The pieces were set to debut at Balmain’s Paris Fashion Week show on September 27.
Representatives of the brand have confirmed that the show will go on despite this loss. “This is so unfair. My team and I worked so hard,” Rousteing’s Instagram announcement said. “We will work more, days and nights, and our suppliers will work days and nights as well but this is so disrespectful.”
Other designers spoke out in support of Balmain and Rousteing following the news, with Donatella Versace commenting, “Sending you all my love. I know that you and your creativity will be able to overcome this!”
There is no news regarding an investigation into the theft, leaving many wondering who would have stolen the luxury items before they were released on the market. Any attempts at selling, many have pointed out, would be an admission of guilt.
As the team works to recreate the looks in time for the show, it is unknown if they will try to speak to the incident by adding to the designs or tell the story as originally intended, leaving the hijacking out of the spotlight. While not the type of attention desired by any fashion brand, all eyes are sure to be on Balmain at Paris Fashion Week this year.
