Burberry Spring 2024 Ready-To-Wear

Burberry Spring 2024 Ready-To-Wear

By: Liv Briley

The history of London fashion is rarely showcased better than by the iconic designs of Burberry. The house’s most recent ready-to-wear collection is a triumphant return to the traditional craftsmanship associated with London style and its focus on durable pieces represents Creative Director Daniel Lee’s vision for the brand.

The collection was designed to be suitable for the outdoors, with thicker-heeled shoes and durable materials being at the forefront of the show. The designs featured a neutral color way and sophisticated silhouettes, especially in the menswear looks. Wide collars, extended in-seams on shorts, and classic trousers were some of the most notable features of the men’s pieces, culminating in a fresh take on the London prep school aesthetic.

The show was full of juxtaposition. Prints depicting chains and heavy tools transitioned into floral and fruit-centric patterns. Worn leather and suiting were contrasted with thin mesh dresses and flowing skirts.

Trench coats were the star of the collection in the men’s and women’s designs, with many being accentuated by low-hanging belts or loosely thrown over an outfit in a cape-like manner. The coats came in a variety of colors and patterns, some even including hints of Burberry plaid in the lining, and all worked to keep outerwear as the focus of the outfits.

The dresses in the collection were equal parts elegant and sexy, with timeless, form-fitted silhouettes. Here is where femininity shined, with delicate ruffles, bolder colors, floral patterns, and long fringe being used to accentuate the models’ forms. This contrasted seamlessly with the more functional female looks, including a chic take on a utility jumpsuit and purses with utility straps and large buckles.

Lee’s sophomore collection with Burberry is an ode to British culture, both past and present, and indicates the new, modernized direction the brand is stepping into. With history at its back and Lee at its helm, Burberry’s reinvention is only just beginning.
