Phoebe Philo Launches Eponymous Label

Phoebe Philo Launches Eponymous Label

By: Emma Greene

Phoebe Philo’s first collection under her self-titled label became available on October 30, 2023. The collection, “A1,” consists of upgraded staples, serving as a continuation of Philo’s classic yet forward-facing design style.

Philo’s devout followers dubbed “Philophiles” have seen her through her tenure at both Chloé and Céline, where she served as creative director from 2001-2006 and 2008-2017 respectively. In 2021, Philo announced her intentions to continue designing under her own name.

“A1” is comprised of 150 items that continue Philo’s narrative of empowering the women wearing her designs through dream-like elegance that allows them to shine.

Defining pieces within the collection include zipper-backed trousers and an exaggerated shag coat. Themes of feathers and asymmetry are consistent throughout.

Within the first hour following the launch, more than one-third of the collection sold out. First to go were the gold and silver variations of the “MUM” necklace.

Philo stated that in producing the collection, she and her team elected to produce less inventory than the anticipated demand required, as they did not want to contribute to overproduction. They have yet to comment on when items will be made available via restock, if at all.

Anticipation for the collection began when fans were able to register for the brand’s mailing list on July 27 at phoebephilo.com. The mailing list and brand social media accounts served as the only campaign advertisements, as media buzz created by Philo’s return served as more than enough publicity to ensure success.

Philo’s continued ability to read and define the zeitgeist shines as “A1” continues to receive praise and calls for a restock abound despite its price point. The “A2'' collection is expected to continue this legacy in the spring of 2024.
