During the last performance of her Munich Residency, Adele made an announcement that has shaken the pop culture world. The Grammy-winning artist announced that she will be taking a break from performing for an unforeseen amount of time.
The artist completed her ten-week August residency in Munich on August 31. The shows took place in an open-air venue with a capacity of around 80,000. During the final show, Adele shared her plans to take a hiatus from performing.
“But after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time,” she continued, “...and I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break. And I will fantasize about these shows and any shows that I've done over the last three years, and I really, really hold them in the bottom of my heart forever,” reported ABC News.
Adele debuted her performance journey with a residency in Las Vegas in November 2022. The shows were originally scheduled to begin in January 2022 but were postponed due to the artist and her team contracting COVID-19. “Weekends with Adele” ran through two extensions at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. After multiple cancellations due to health problems and periods of rescheduling, Adele’s residency is set to officially end in November 2024. Adele has performed two shows each weekend, featuring new black gowns at the performances as a tribute to the classic black dress.
To kick off her Vegas Residency, Adele performed in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture design. This black velvet, off-the-shoulder gown featured a satin sash with a crystal-encrusted gold buckle.
For Weekend 3, Adele appeared in a black draped gown featuring an asymmetrical neckline designed by Caroline Herrera, accompanied by puff sleeves and a gold flower on the waistline.
Harris Reed, the youngest creative director for label Nina Ricci, designed Adele’s weekend five gown. This off-the-shoulder velvet gown featured tulle sleeves encrusted with sequin polka dots. According to Grazia Magazine, this was the first custom creation made by the brand in five years.
For weekend 14, Adele appeared in a custom Jenny Packham black gown featuring floral embellishments throughout the gown’s bodice.
For one of the last shows in her Munich residency, Adele performed in a full sequin gown designed by Louis Vuitton.
