The 54th Annual NAACP Image Awards was hosted at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The annual awards ceremony was created by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to honor outstanding achievements in film, television, theater, music, and literature by people of color in the calendar year. With over 40 categories across all entertainment mediums, the carpet prior to the show hosted some of this year's biggest stars, dressed to the nines.
Zendaya in Versace and Prada
This was the Euphoria star’s first carpet appearance of the year, and she showed up in a big way. Her carpet look was a custom silk, black and neon green Versace gown from their spring-summer 2002 haute couture collection. Before presenting on the mainstage, she changed into a custom white bra and skirt combo inspired by a look from Prada’s 1993 collection. Both looks were paired with stunning Bulgari jewelry, which came as no surprise considering Zendaya’s long-standing partnership with the brand.
Quinta Brunson in Dundas
Abbott Elementary multi-hyphenate star has been no stranger to carpets this award season, and has made multiple best dressed lists with every show she attends. This time was no different, with her look of the night being a reflective, confetti Dundas gown. She was accompanied by all of her castmates for the evening, with Abbott nominated for a total of seven awards.
Janelle Monaé in custom Cong Tri
Another fashionable multi-hyphenate, Janelle Monaé attended the ceremony nominated for her role in Glass Onion. The actress has won over 10 awards across her performances in music and film. Her custom red cut-out gown was made by the luxury Vietnam label Cong Tri, which has also dressed stars like Beyoncé, Rhianna, and Naomi Campbell.
Gabrielle Union in Versace
Actress and advocate Gabrielle Union was dressed in an intricate and colorful vintage “Circus” Versace gown paired with a Bulgari necklace last night. The dress featured bright colors and geometric patterns. The necklace she paired it with has been noted in several “best dressed” lists, since she is a part of the few actresses that have opted to wear statement jewelry on the carpet.
The healthy mix of well-known and niche fashion houses made for the NAACP Image Award red carpet to be an entertaining show of fashion and craftsmanship. Not only was the award show star-studded, but it was a brillant of example of how fun carpet fashion can be.
