Our favorite looks from Superfine: Tailoring Black Style
The 2025 Met Gala was one for the fashion history books. The theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” accompanied by the dress code, “Tailored for You,” highlighted two significant areas of fashion history that are often overlooked: menswear and Black style.
Throughout the night, unique interpretations of Black Dandyism and beautiful, elegant tailoring wowed spectators and industry professionals. However, the gala’s high-profile guests were not the first to walk the luxurious, blue floral carpet on May 5.
It was only fitting that a night dedicated to the history of Black fashion began with a tuxedoed gospel choir singing an a cappella rendition of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” from the stairs of the gala entrance.
The choir’s joyous performance set the tone for the evening. Shortly after, the ‘blue’ carpet kicked off with appearances from the gala’s 2025 co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, as well as Vogue’s Anna Wintour, who has overseen the gala since 1995.
Outfits this year were sleek and bold. As the screams of loyal fans signaled the arrival of their favorite celebrities, the carpet began to flood with jaw-dropping and impactful looks. With more than 300 fine-tailored looks gracing the carpet this year, it is impossible to feature every show-stopping moment, so let’s look at a few of the most talked-about outfits that encapsulated the spirit of the Black Dandy.

Singer and business mogul Rihanna reportedly arrived on the carpet at around 10 p.m.—nearly an hour after the last guests entered the gala. She arrived in a mesmerizing, corseted Marc Jacobs look, along with a surprise baby bump, marking the end of the almost four-hour carpet.
Once inside the museum, Rihanna joined her partner and gala co-chair A$AP Rocky. Guests finished the night with dinner, dancing, and performances by iconic musicians Stevie Wonder and Usher.
