Christian Dior has presented ground-breaking collections that encapsulate the beauty of femininity since 1947. During World War II, Dior designed dresses for the wives of Nazi officers and French collaborators until he founded the world-renowned fashion house, Christian Dior. Dior’s debut collection Corolle included 90 garments and outfits that became known as the “New Look.” This was a revolutionary era at the end of the 1940s that celebrated ultra-femininity and opulence in women’s fashion. Christian Dior is accredited with preserving the Paris fashion industry during World War II, and his legacy is still very much alive in the City of Lights as displayed through Dior’s spring 2025 show.

The show opened with Neapolitan artist and archer, SAGG Napoli, firing arrows down an enclosed range in the center of the runway at the Musée Rodin. Napoli was fashioned in a Dior ensemble consisting of a gladiator-style skirt, a one-shoulder tank, and knee-high leather boots.
It was only fitting that a modern-day Amazonian took the stage, being that the collection was inspired by the asymmetric Amazone dress Christian Dior designed for his autumn/winter collection in 1951-1952. Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, said the dress is symbolic of “a strength of spirit, a reference point for the notion of an autonomous, courageous femininity.”
The functional ready-to-wear collection was geared towards the contemporary woman who wants to wear clothes that allow movement without constraint. “My obsession is making pieces which are easy to wear, using technology but also couture know-how,” Chiuri told Harper’s Bazaar.
The collection gave a nod to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics by showing off sporty, chic sets. The looks included tracksuits, leotards, bomber jackets, parachute pants, and lace-up sneaker-boots. A few evening dresses took inspiration from the Amazons, the matriarchal tribe of women warriors from Greek mythology.
Ever the feminist, Chiuri showcased modern looks for strong women looking to harbor an essence of power. Honoring Dior’s roots, Chiuri took traditional feminine fashion to the next level with these striking looks and hit the mark perfectly; just as Napoli did.
