Fendi Spring 2027 Ready-To-Wear Collection

At Milan Fashion Week, Fendi proved that getting dressed starts with what is usually hidden. For her second ready-to-wear collection for Fendi, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri brought lingerie out from underneath the clothes. Lace bras peeked through plunging necklines and unbuttoned shirts, while matching satin bralettes and shorts appeared in many different colors. Sheer dresses, fitted catsuits, and purposeful layering continued the collection’s focus on the body.
The lingerie was mixed with some of the collection's more glamorous pieces. Fur, fringe, and sequins appeared throughout the show, along with beaded maxi dresses and dramatic black looks. Black was a core part of the collection, but shades of pink, yellow, and teal brought a pop of color to the runway.
The collection was largely inspired by Italian singer and actress Raffaella Carrà. Known for her glittering costumes and bold style throughout the 1970s, Carrà’s influence could be seen in many of these designs.
Chiuri specifically drew her inspiration for the show from Carrà’s 1974 performance with Italian musician Adriano Celentano on the television program Milleluci. Surrounded by mirrors, they performed Celentano’s “Prisencolinensinainciusol,” a gibberish song meant to sound like English. As a reference to the performance, models walked inside a semitransparent mirrored box where their reflections could be seen across the walls and mixed with those of the audience as well. The effect made the people watching the show a part of the experience.
“We began with conversations about undergarments, our bodies, and then what happens when we share our body with someone else. [It became a reflection] on femininity, and thus also on the Fendi sisters,” Chiuri said in an interview. But here, showing the body did not mean that every look needed to be revealing. More covered pieces, including long dresses and coats, were shown alongside sheer fabrics and lingerie. This contrast gave the collection different ways of approaching femininity and dressing one’s body.
The house’s signature accessory, the Baguette bag, also received an update for spring 2027. The bags appeared covered in sequins, fringe, and patterns, along with a miniature version made to carry only the bare necessities.
With lingerie, ‘70s inspiration, and references to Italian pop culture, Fendi’s spring 2027 collection brought several different ideas together. Whether a look was sheer, revealing, or completely covered, the body always remained at the forefront. “Fashion is a part of our language,” Chiuri said. “Clothes give another sense to the body.”
