Halloween Recap: 2021 Best Dressed

Halloween Recap: 2021 Best Dressed

By: Tyler Leik

Halloween is the only night of the year when celebrities can ditch the glam for face paint, blood, and prosthetics, and no one can say anything about it. In fact, many of us look forward to it. This year, many celebrities made up for lost time and dressed in extravagant costumes. Some elevated their looks with gore, prosthetics, replicas of favorite characters, as well as odes to fellow stars. Keep reading for my round-up of 2021’s best Halloween costumes.

Megan Thee Stallion: Pinhead

Megan has only experienced a handful of Halloweens in the spotlight thus far but has not disappointed. The singer made this year one to remember, turning heads as Pinhead and later as Cruella de Vil.

Chloe Bailey: Lola from Shark Tale

Lola from Shark Tale is not a costume you would expect, but Chloe Bailey absolutely killed it. All of the bases were hit, starting with the sheer creativity of the idea, to the hair and makeup, costume design, and the perfect replica of the movie’s cover through her shoot are all things that made this costume iconic.

Cardi B: Morticia Adams

Cardi B took a stab at Morticia Adams from The Addams Family this year but added her own Cardi flair through her costume’s net-like fabric, dark eye, her infamous nails, and statement accessories.

Ariana Grande: Creature from the Black Lagoon

Ariana Grande was one of the many celebrities that went above and beyond and shocked everyone in this costume. She took the idea of ditching the glam to heart, which is something rarely seen from her. She even included her husband, Dalton Gomez, into her extravagant theme alongside her jaw-dropping prosthetics done by the infamous Julie Hassett, who is also responsible for some of Ari’s daring Halloween looks in years past.

Lizzo: Baby Yoda

Lizzo is everyone’s favorite human, and for good reason. Yoda was not the only costume she stepped out and dropped jaws in this year. She also channeled her inner Kardashian and love for Squid Games.

Janelle Monáe: The Grinch

For the die-hard Christmas fans, the season typically starts on November 1st, but Montáe’s near-exact replica of the Grinch himself did nothing but get everyone excited 24 hours early, granted it was impressive.

Kendall Jenner: Mars Attacks!

Kendall Jenner owns Halloween. The only thing keeping her from being Hedi Klum is that she has yet to make her annual at-home horror film. She never fails to disappoint, from last year's golden angel to this year’s 90s inspired Mars Attacks! ensemble.

Harry Styles: Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz

Harry Styles not only blew everyone away by blowing social norms out of the water on his continued quest to redefine masculinity but also had thousands of fans dress up with him for the first-ever Harryween that took over Madison Square Garden.

Lil Nas X: Voldemort

Lil Nas X simply outdid himself with the authenticity of this look. The only costume that has even begun to come close to this one in years past was in 2017 when Lebron James stepped out as Pennywise, and even then takes the lead as Lil Nas’ prosthetics alone took upwards of 3 hours with multiple hands on deck.
