Isabel Marant Ready-To-Wear Spring-Summer 2021

Hotpants, Michael Jackson jackets, shoulder pads, and cargo pants… there is a lot to unpack here, so let’s just consider this my open love letter to Isabel Marant. It is extremely easy to become completely infatuated with this distinguished French designer, Isabel Marant, who established her namesake brand back in 1994. Isabel Marant ended up showing at this year’s Paris Fashion Week for the upcoming season after many months of hesitation - and I must say - I am grateful that she changed her mind.
The first few looks are hard to miss in light of their electric hues and voluptuous silhouettes. Metallic lilac, fuchsia and bridesmaid dress magenta all made an appearance on a mixture of male and female models. Marant’s collection embraced the trends that consumed the 1980’s pop culture, similar to how Virginie Viard took inspiration from the decade’s recognizable neon tones and street art in the latest Chanel collection.
Another trend that keeps appearing is the slouchy, over-the-knee cowboy boot. Marant sent multiple variations of this fall trend down the runway in creamy white, red and pink color blocking velvet, and even a pair with monochromatic stripes of blue. Although the majority of the models had a pair of Kacey Musgraves-approved boots on, others sported strappy stilettos with metallic finishes, and the males walked around in similar styles without the six-inch heel.
Waistlines were accentuated with dazzling peplums, hidden frames became aspirational with the presence of large, asymmetrical sleeves and baggy pants, and--somehow--Isabel Marant made what is frequently referred to as ‘the most horrifying decade in fashion’ relevant again.
Cut some curtain bangs, pull out the bubblegum--maybe even get a perm--and turn on MTV right now, because the ’80s are back.
