On March 6, 2024, Lacoste bounced back into the Paris Fashion Week circuit after two years of absence. The French fashion house is under the guidance of Pelagia Kolotouros. Kolotouros is a Greek designer that has run the fashion gauntlet, working as a designer for names such as Yeezy and The North Face.
The show was set on the courts of Stade Roland Garros, Paris’ premier tennis arena, and this location immediately demonstrated Kolotouros’ intentions to embrace the brand's roots as a luxury sports brand. The center of the red clay court was covered by a spiraling hill of the same tone.
The show opened with a number of male and female models donning black and green street style outfits. Built upon beautifully draped trench coats and well-tailored blazers, the first segment of the show was dominated by classic European fashion. The models walked across the court and up the red clay spiral, just to reach the peak and begin their descent.
Kolotouros continued to impress later in the show by pushing her way out of classic luxury and into more inventive and creative styles. Models showed off skin-tight shirts with oversized, monochrome pants and shoes. Contemporary coats paired with dress pants clearly too long for “typical” fashion standards filled the room joined by aggressive graphic sweaters and silhouettes of all shapes. The models moved from black and green to a flurry of muted colors.
As the models walked in earth tones, Kolotouros demonstrated her creative ability through a whimsical flow of sport, luxury, and streetwear, tied together by the sporty tennis culture that Lacoste was built upon.
Later looks were reminiscent of large bathrobes, while others were sharp sport looks. The materials were diverse, featuring wool, nylon, down, silk, mesh, and leather.
The demonstration was a wonderful showing of fashion, humanity, movement, and art, through which Pelagia Kolotouros demonstrated that Lacoste is back, not only in Paris Fashion Week, but to their roots.
