The Palomo Spain Spring 2024 Ready-To-Wear collection designed by Alejandro Gomez Palomo delighted audiences at New York Fashion Week. Palomo is known as the king of genderless fashion and for creating pieces that surpass societal norms. While this year’s show involved a few female models, it primarily centered around the wide variety of male models in an explosion of sensual, dark color schemes contrasted with angelic softness and romance. Palomo presents a collection of spring beauty that flourished within the walls of The Plaza Hotel’s Terrace Room.
The iconic location of the event perfectly followed the theme, “Cruising in the Rose Garden,” and it was a very elaborate, glamorous rose garden at that. The atmosphere honed in on the Jazz Age with Gatsby-esque extravagance and abundance apparent in the gilded walls, massive chandeliers, and dozens of roses.
The models slowly strutted down the runway, maintaining eye contact with the audience under Palomo’s instruction, which added to the secret, sexy feeling of the show. Palomo juxtaposed soft lace and silk with firm leather and denim to further the romantic theme. Palomo’s designs comment on how humans have two sides, and he showcases both within this collection.
The boudoir was the foundation of the spring looks with bed robes, corsets, micro-shorts, sheer dresses, feathered trousers, camisoles, and briefs dominating the show. In the Palomo world, gender is always open and flowing with endless possibilities concerning masculinity. Palomo wanted to showcase the structured collar bones of the male models and pushed past the notion of bras only being worn by women.
As far as the dazzling assortment of accessories in the show, the bags appeared to be in bloom, with some even having stems that made their way to the floor. Flowers were also featured in many of the looks with light pink fabrics and flower prints making their way onto some of the dresses and flowing trousers.
Palomo’s designs break down stereotypes and explore a new generation of masculinity, and we cannot wait to see where his boundary-pushing designs take Palomo Spain next.
