Saint Laurent Spring 2024 Ready-To-Wear
Saint Laurent Spring 2024 Ready-To-Wear

An homage to Yves Saint Laurent’s muses from the time of the house’s founding, Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello’s latest collection for the renowned French fashion house is luxurious in its utilitarian elegance. The camels and muted greens allow the silhouettes to do all of the talking. The 1970s acted as the backdrop for it-girls Betty Catroux and Loulou de la Falaise to shine in Yves Saint Laurent’s inaugural designs. In the latest collection for Saint Laurent, Vaccarello has revived the polished tomboy flair that was inspired by the likes of Catroux, de la Falaise, and the chicest women in France.
Vaccarello’s archival Alaïa-inspired hoods helped shape last season’s collection. Continuing to highlight his love for accessorizing above eye line, Vaccarello created a variety of aviator caps to top off a handful of the captain-worthy looks. It seems that Vaccarello’s focus for the collection was on creating pieces with integrity and longevity.
These thoughtful garments are not one-hit-wonders to be forgotten as the news cycle begins again. These designs represent the power of paring down. Women idolized in history for their beautifully ordinary style including the late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy would walk naturally in a number of Saint Laurent’s latest pieces.
The runways this season are not reflecting the trend of “quiet luxury”, but rather reminding us that the beauty of simplicity is not a trend at all. Classic silhouettes are classic for a reason. Dare we ask if this means a return of some level of refinement in everyday dress?
