Michael Kors Fall/Winter 2024

Michael Kors presented their fall/winter 2024 collection, “Timeless,” at the former Barneys New York flagship store. Models walked down the iconic white spiral staircase before a star-studded crowd including Gabrielle Union, Blake Lively, Rachel Brosnahan, Brie Larson, Rachel Zegler, Katie Holmes, and Anna Wintour.

The collection was indeed timeless, dominated by a neutral colorway with pops of blush, metallics, and even a little leopard print (which we predict will be a major neutral this year). Most of the looks were monochrome, making even the metallic pieces appear understated.

Slip dresses with lace bodices, high-low hemlines, asymmetrical seams, and dainty skirts paired with chunky cashmere sweaters were just a few of the trends present in the collection. Accessories were minimal; most outfits were adorned with little black purses. The beauty looks were kept classy to match the exclusive feeling of the show. The collection also included the “no pants” trend, showing sheer skirts worn over plain undergarments and paired with thick sweaters.

Curve-hugging suits brought detail to workwear, with some of the suit jackets worn over zip-up hoodies and some worn over nothing at all. Many of the jackets were paired with loose, knee-length trousers, proving that shorts will not be left in the summertime this year. Loose trousers were paired with double belts, an accessory that seems to be back in the spotlight this year. The collection’s more sophisticated looks were contrasted with sweatshirts, including a metallic oversized sweatshirt worn on its own.

Any fall/winter collection is defined by its outerwear. From puffer vests to trench coats, there was something for everyone in this collection. Heavy faux fur coats in a variety of colors stole the show, many worn over lacy slip dresses or shimmering midi-dresses, which gave a luxurious, sexy feeling to the show. The collection’s aviator style leather jackets lined with faux fur felt well-timed given the recent popularity of the style in new Apple TV+ show Masters of the Air

New York Fashion Week highlights the mainstays of American fashion, and the Michael Kors brand has been solidified in this status for decades. In a time of rapid trend cycles, it is refreshing to see a brand that maintains a commitment to defying time.
