Milan Fashion Week: Fall/Winter 2022 Ready-to-Wear

By: Elena Ossoski

Fashion month is flying by so we are here to help you catch up on the memorable and noteworthy moments to remember from the presentation of the fall/winter ready-to-wear collections. Any lover of the sartorial side of life knows that fashion week is never just about the clothes. This pillar in the fashion industry’s calendar has evolved into somewhat of a cultural checkup.

Are the masses prioritizing comfort when opting for a pair of New Balances over the latest stiletto from The Attico? Will there be a lax in the traditional surplus of over-the-top/only-for-the-Instagram outfits in exchange for exhibits of individual style?

Milan, an iconic fashion hub, is the backdrop for the second-to-last week of fashion month. Milan Fashion Week is dominated by the big names we all love to love: Versace, Gucci, Fendi, and Prada.

Stand-out hues, lots of leather, the energy from Vivienne Westwood’s punk era, and the return of the statement coat only begin to sum up what was seen from Milan Fashion Week.

Baggy business casual trousers, distressed textiles, and lower waistlines are pointing towards the longevity of what was wrongfully assumed to be a short-lived revival of Y2K’s most recognizable trends.

You can expect to add an abundance of red and yellow to your wardrobe. Versace did not shy away from sending models down the runway in a full ensemble of fiery cherry.

Timeless coats are not always plain. The return of loud coats and jackets feels like finally getting oxygen back into the lungs after holding one’s breath as the fixation on the minimalist-approved trenches stood in the spotlight for a bit too long. We all love a classic trench and its quintessential chicness, but let us be grateful for the upcoming addition of “it” pieces to our autumn wardrobes.

Love them or hate them, the latest collections we have seen on the runways in Milan act as markers on the modern-day. Fashion is always here to give us a unique insight into the trends that help build our society’s cultural makeup.
