Emilia Wickstead Ready-To-Wear Spring 2025

Emilia Wickstead’s spring/summer 2025 collection explored the profound connection between Gisèle Freund and the lives of those she captured: the muse and her muses.

The show paid homage to the dualism between the public persona and private world of those photographed, illustrating the complex layer of an individual inspired by Freund’s work. Freund is infamous for the many years she spent in Paris capturing the intellectuals and elites passing through the city of lights, such as Frida Kahlo and Virginia Woolf.

Freund was a German-French pioneer in photography and photojournalism. She is most known for introducing modern color technology to South Africa in the 1930s, hence the show's backdrop; the Map Room and Main Hall of the Royal Geographical Society in South Kensington, London September 15.

The designs flowed from neutrals to bold pops of baby blue, pink, yellow, and green. Models strutted down the runway in sequined maxi skirts, contemporary suits, and detailed mini-dresses. There was lace galore, with gorgeous floral prints as well as gloves and headpieces by Laura Cathcart.

With their elegant forms and modern touches, the designs evoked the romance and heritage of bygone times. Little sprinkles of modern femininity were apparent throughout in natural Wickstead fashion.

In a Tea Talk interview with Ginoria 1737, Wickstead recounts that she designs, “always with a muse in mind,” so every new season the muse will alter. This is part of what makes her line so enticing, interesting, and fun to follow, and we can not wait to see who inspires Wickstead next.
