Prada’s latest menswear collection, designed by co-creative directors Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada, sought to marry the juxtaposing natural outdoor and unnatural corporate worlds. The collection unifies natural hues with sharp geometric patterns, creating a symbiotic exhibit of traditionally opposing elements.
The corporate and natural elements were also represented in the show’s setting. A stream and meadow ran across the Paris venue floor while computer monitors and carpeted cubicle dividers lined the perimeter.
Every look in the collection was completed with a form of headwear, from sailor hats to modernized balaclavas. Swimcap-like hats and pants were brought to the unnatural side of the show with textured fabrics that mimicked pant seams and knitwear.
Alongside the variety of hats, the collection featured at least one belt in each look. These accessories came in several styles, from barely-there to loud and angular takes on 1970s-era concho belts, all clasped at the side.
Larger bags made an appearance in the collection, presented in various neutral colorways with small pops of color accenting the most-seen style. The geometric belt patterns were reprised as bag straps.
As is required in a fall/winter show, Prada and Simons presented several elegant coats alongside less-expected oversized jackets and delicate cardigans. Such styles paid homage to workplace styles of the 1920s-1960s.
Prada’s fall 2024 menswear collection was one of contrast and harmony, bringing together harsh angles and elegant textiles as well as the indoor and outdoor worlds. The show called to attention the duality of these two elements and our ability to bring them together in our lives.
