Following her final show in New York City this past fall, Carly Mark, the founder, designer, and face of the brand, decided to transition to London; severely downsizing her company to focus on the accessory market.

Along with a new change of location, Puppets and Puppets debuted a change of its logo. To end a very “brat” summer, Mark utilized the skills of Brent David Freaney, the artistic director of Charli XCX’s hit album brat.

With high expectations after a spectacular New York run, Puppets and Puppets debuted at London’s Institute of Contemporary Art with 17 full looks. What made these looks so interesting was that they were not created by the brand. For the presentation, Mark described that she was, “...more interested in fashion as a concept,” and, “...interested in evolving the concept of fashion.” These items served as the common backdrop for which the accessories were amplified.

In a bold statement, the models were dressed in clothing sourced from fast fashion outlets. In doing so, Carly created a very real image that high fashion so frequently ignores: that for the large part, designer fashion will be worn by real people. By styling her models in this, Puppets and Puppets invited those who don’t have access to designer brands to take part in the conceptual world of fashion, which inspires Carly Mark as an artist daily.

Moving away from its typical food-related iconography, the latest addition to the Puppets and Puppets bag line is titled the “Pillow,” a beautifully crafted bag that resembles an airplane pillow; reflecting the movement of the brand.

With a stunning and introspective introduction, Puppets and Puppets made its mark in its first London Fashion Week. Though an understated presentation, Mark’s talent and conceptual work led to optimistic anticipation for the future of Puppets and Puppets.
