On the night of September 9, Ralph Lauren invited New York City into its post-pandemic age with a medley of classic americana and avant-garde innovation.
The powerhouse gave its first New York-based presentation since 2019 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in a transformed warehouse complete with chandeliers and raw wood floors.
What has been called the most anticipated show of New York Fashion Week, it came as no surprise that front-row attendees included Sofia Richie Grainge, Cara Delevine, and Jennifer Lopez, among several others.
Presented in three distinct palettes, Lauren called the collection “a new kind of romance.” It eased viewers into spring, beginning with a classic denim and white story, followed by intoxicating gold and black, and concluded with jewel-toned, maximalist flamboyance.
Each color story called back to a different aspect of American fashion and culture. Denim and white pieces featured elements of classic office-wear alongside flowing summer florals while several gold and black looks simultaneously drew upon imaginations of a gilded wild west and classic Hollywood.
The eccentric finale was a colorful amalgamation of influence from bohemian flower-child to turn of the century hip-hop.
Ralph Lauren’s newest handbag, the RL 888, made its runway debut in several colorways, including navy, black, emerald, metallic gold, and acid-washed denim.
Tying the themes together was the appearance of exaggerated gold belts, some featuring the house’s logo and others more abstract.
The collection’s frequent utilization of gold and bronze fabrics solidifies that metallics are no longer a thing of cold weather fashion, but rather fit to dazzle at any time of year.
After the show where Lauren says “elegant eclecticism” came to life, guests were invited to an intimate dinner inspired by Lauren’s own Colorado ranch. The dinner showcased his personal favorite fares from the Polo Bar menu.
Ralph Lauren’s successful homecoming show represents, to many, a restoration of pre-pandemic fashion in New York City. While the landscape of fashion week presenters is ever-evolving, Ralph Lauren remains the apex of American fashion.
