From premiering and starring in the hit film based on Colleen Hoover’s award winning novel “It Ends With Us,” to launching her new haircare line “Blake Brown,” Blake Lively has been on our minds lately.

Lively’s sense of style and fashion has always been eye-catching. Whether it was her “Gossip Girl” school outfits or Met Gala looks, she has always been a style icon to many. However, following the recent premiere of “It Ends With Us,” Lively’s looks began to receive mixed reviews. During the press tour, she was spotted embracing her character Lily Bloom through outfits including various floral prints, such as handmade floral jeans and coats.

Some of Lively’s red carpet appearances and interview reels from the past and present have resurfaced, painting her in a controversial light. Some critics are describing her as tone-deaf and out of touch. Lively’s interview with journalist Kjersti Flaa has gone viral after her controversial response to the journalist congratulating her on her baby bump. This — along with several other instances — have since caused her to get backlash from fans.

During her days as preppy, bohemian Serena Vanderwoodsen in the cultural phenomenon “Gossip Girl,” Lively was seen in questionable yet chic looks. For example, during season 1, Lively wears a yellow floral Ralph Lauren tiered gown as a bridesmaid in her mother’s wedding.

Lively has been famed for her iconic Met Gala looks. For example, Lively’s most loved Met Gala look paid homage to New York City. As co-chair of the 2022 Met Gala, Lively wore a custom Versace gown resembling the colors of the Statue of Liberty. This custom piece of art unveiled a completely new look as she walked the red carpet of one of fashion’s most compelling evenings.

In 2018, Lively dressed in a burgundy Baroque style Versace gown for the Met Gala theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

Recent photos and videos of Lively’s looks from the film “It Ends With Us”and events promoting the film have sparked the audience’s interest. The Hollywood Reporter talked with Eric Daman, “It Ends With Us” costume designer, about the criticism her outfits were creating. In this article, Daman explains how Lively’s character in the movie has a very specific style and that when “...people actually see the context of the clothing and how it’s actually put together in the scenes, [and] how Blake carries it all as Lily, I think people are gonna be thrilled and very excited.”

For a Book Bonanza “It Ends With Us” event with author Colleen Hoover, Lively wore a floral beaded Balmain mini dress.

For the Tribeca Festival Artists Dinner, Lively arrived in a black, floral, two-piece Chanel set, shockingly reminiscent of pajamas. Finding humor in the funky fit, Lively later posted the outfit on Instagram with the caption, “Pajama party - but make it @chanelofficial.”

Even after the controversy, Lively’s style has not changed. Amidst the criticism, she continues to choose pieces that are unique to her and her personal style, even if they do not appease the public.
