The Best Looks from Euphoria

The Best Looks from Euphoria

By: Molly Roberts

For the past eight weeks, Sundays have transformed into the day when everyone sits around their television waiting for the clock to hit 8 o’clock in order to watch the most recent episode of Euphoria. The American teen drama series follows a group of high schoolers who are navigating the trials and tribulations of love, friendship, trauma, addiction, identity, and social media. In more ways than one, these characters stand out from your average high schooler. The most outstanding feature of these characters is their fashion choices.

The show’s costume designer, Heidi Bivens, perfectly captures each of the character’s identities even down to their hair, nails, and makeup. The fashion choices further tell the stories of these characters and even what they represent in society. In order to appreciate the true mastery of Biven’s costume design, below are my favorite looks from Euphoria.

First and foremost is the powerful style of Maddy Perez. She sports most of my favorite looks from the show. Maddy is confident, bold, and strong-willed and her style reflects that. Everything from her sharp cut eyeliner, straight hair, and long nails reflect those characteristics. In season one, Maddy is seen in a sheer set with a mesh rhinestone headpiece as her prom look in the final episode. This look is one of my favorite looks in the show thus far because of how glamorous, sexy and classic it is.

Maddy has her 13 going on 30 moment in season two when she showcases a plethora of high fashion brands owned by the woman she babysits for. In this scene, Maddy tries on a 1991 Thierry Mugler Kessler dress, a 1997 camelia print Chanel shirt dress, a 1993 Valentino gown, a metallic Halston caftan dress and a gold sequined Dior gown. All of the stunning pieces in this scene were thanks to Aralda Vintage in Los Angeles. For this scene, Aralda Vintage was invited on set to decorate the entire closet with most items being from her shop or her personal collection.

Maddy is also seen in full Jacquemus while attending Lexi’s play. The green Jacquemus bodysuit and mini handbag pair perfectly with her green eyeshadow.

Maddy has another designer moment during her birthday scene. She sports the classic black slip dress with blue lace trim from the Marc Jacobs and Devon Lee Carlson collection. Maddy is then gifted a Tiffany and Co. necklace to add further luxury to her high fashion birthday look.

One of Maddy’s most well-known looks is her New Year’s Eve outfit. On New Year’s Maddy is seen in a black cutout dress with matching gloves by Akna. She accessorizes with bedazzled lace-up sandals by Amina Muaddi x AWGE.

In season two, Cassie is seen in pastels with delicately curled hair, light makeup, and soft nails. Cassie’s style shows everything that Cassie desires to be: soft, gentle, caring, beautiful, and feminine. We also see how much of the way she dresses is an attempt to get love and attention from others. Much of Cassie’s fashion is traditionally feminine. We also see through their wardrobes that Cassie and Maddy are direct contrasts to one another. One of my favorite of Cassie’s is also her prom look. She wears a pink fitted dress with embellished trim around the neckline.

Lexi's style embodies delicacy, femininity, and intellectuality. She perfects the art of subtle details which is a great direct representation of who she is as a character. Lexi looks stunning in a cropped puff-sleeve poplin top by Miu Miu as well as a plaid mini dress by Miu Miu.

A favorite Jules outfit of mine is her New Year’s outfit. Many of the actors collaborate with Bivens on their looks for the show and that is exactly what Hunter Schafer did for this look. Jules' wardrobe is a lot about layering. Both Schafer and Bivens look for ways to add even more dimension to many of Jules’ outfits. This look features a NIHL bejeweled tank over a  Maroske Peech short-sleeved mesh top. She paired it with a corseted skirt from Orseund iris and gloves.

One of my favorite looks from Kat is the outfit she wore at Maddy’s birthday party. Kat is wearing a strappy mini dress with matching gloves. The dress is by Auné Collections, a WOC-founded sustainable and size-inclusive brand.

Last, but certainly not least is Fezco’s grandmother in a two-piece electric blue suit designed by Amber Doyle. On the back of the suit it reads “God’s Word” and “God’s Will” with an embroidered rose in the middle. This suit perfectly captures the essence of this eccentric character.

There is no shortage of favorite looks in Euphoria. Not to mention how stunning the makeup looks by Donni Davy are. Heidi Bivens as well as all of the Euphoria cast is incredibly talented and have done such an amazing job with costume design thus far. I can’t wait to see what is in store for a newly anticipated season three.
