No matter how frequently the Gossip Girl matriarch, Lily van der Woodsen, changed her last name after countless marriages, her timeless style remained constant throughout the show’s six seasons. Everyone loves to harp on Chuck’s color-coordinated suits, Blair’s aspirational, modern-prep signature, and Serena’s effortless, “it girl” look. Yet, no one seems to have the decency to acknowledge the impeccable, chic edge that Lily van der Woodsen exudes.

For everyday pieces, stick with a color palette that you know works best for you. But, if you’re looking to emulate Lily’s looks, neutrals are the way to go. One of my favorite pieces Lily ever wears in the show is the bone-colored, enamel reading glasses. The glasses frequently make an appearance while simultaneously proving that eyewear is the perfect final touch to any look. 

Lily instantly elevates a simple white tee with a gray wrap sweater and a glittering statement necklace. When you just don’t have the time to think about looking put together, you can emulate this same look.

It’s important to note that the key to Lily’s chic style is the understated elegance in her more glamorous evening looks.
