The ‘Wicked: For Good Press Tour Is, Well…Wickedly Good

As the holiday season approaches, so do a plethora of highly anticipated movies to theaters around the globe. Many have waited in eager suspense for franchise titles like Avatar: Fire and Ash and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, but one title has loomed large over them all: the final installment of the beloved musical-movie Wicked: For Good.

It’s no surprise that there’s been such a buzz in the media surrounding Wicked. Countless popular brands have partnered with the film, making exclusive merchandise for companies like GAP, Lush, Urban Outfitters, Dunkin’, and more.

The stars themselves have also taken steps to promote the movie. Ariana Grande’s makeup brand, r.e.m. beauty, has released several Wicked-themed makeup items over the past few weeks. From eyeshadow to blush to lip gloss, there’s something for everyone looking to get in the mood for the popular film.

The hype for Wicked reached an all-time high following the release of live performances like the “Dancing With The Stars” Wicked-themed night and the televised special Wicked: One Wonderful Night. Fans watched the two-hour special from the comfort of their homes, getting a sneak peek at what the titular song “For Good” would sound like via a performance from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, as well as Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel—Glinda and Elphaba from the original Broadway show.

Viral moments from interviews have gotten even non-fans in on the hype, with memes like “holding space” and the countless emotional moments exchanged between Erivo and Grande making their rounds on social media. However, true fans know that when Nov. 21 arrives, they’ll be in the same emotional boat.

Amidst waiting for the film to be released to the public, many fans are watching the cast as they display their wonderful outfits on the red carpets. Rather than sporting green like last year, Erivo has taken to highlighting the darkness that her character Elphaba experiences in the second film. At the London premiere, she showed up in a bold black A-line Prada gown with vinyl sleeves and a leather-belted waist.

At the same event, Grande shocked audiences with a departure from Glinda’s signature all-pink wardrobe. Instead, she opted for an all-black 1952 Gilbert Adrian gown, still maintaining some of Glinda’s sparkle with sequined embellishments and a diamond choker.

Most recently, Erivo stunned in an all-black custom Balenciaga look by Pierpaolo Piccioli. With the blending of different fabrics, feathered ornamentation, and chic sunglasses, Erivo channeled Elphaba’s character perfectly at the New York premiere of Wicked: For Good.

Grande wore an elegant pink-and-black ball gown. The black took the form of a corseted top, while the light pink enhanced the full tulle skirt. Perhaps a nod to the darker turn Glinda’s tale will take in the epic finale, Grande caught eyes with her stunning dress and Swarovski diamond earrings.

With the striking looks departing so drastically from last year’s, many fans are feeling increasingly excited for the next film. There’s no doubt that audiences will have a gravity-defying experience at the cinema this Thanksgiving season.
